Pirano, present day Piran, is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. Historically the town was a part of Dalmatia, a historical region along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, and a part of the Austro Hungarian empire. This image captures the town in the early twentieth century. The Dalmatian dog received its name from Dalmatia, as
